Calling all L.A. art lovers! If you haven’t heard already, Gallery1988–which is a local pop culture-inspired art gallery located in the heart of Los Angeles–will be running an exciting new exhibit titled “Console Wars” this Friday, December 11, from 7-9 PM. As I’m sure you’ve already surmised from the title, the art will be video game-themed. In fact, all of the pieces take heavy inspiration from “the kings of 16-bit” Super Nintendo and Sega Genesis. You know, the folks behind Super Mario Bros., Sonic, Metroid, and so much more.

It’s sure to be a nostalgic blast.
Ahead of the gallery, the folks behind the project shared a couple of the pieces that will be on display during the show, and after looking at them, we’re pretty pumped. Of the images that have been released, I’m currently obsessed with sculptor Brad Hill’s submission, which Gallery1988Â shared on their Instagram.
It’s hard to find a phrase more iconic than Peppy Hare’s “Do a Barrel Roll.” I still get giddy typing the phrase into the Google search engine, and watching the screen follow the command. That’s just the tip of the iceberg when it comes to the gallery’s creative submissions. Check out a few of the others that have been released online in the gallery below.
As for the rest of the images, they’ll be available online some time Saturday afternoon.
