Confirmed: Deathlok and Lorelei to Join MARVEL’S AGENTS OF S.H.I.E.L.D.

The world of Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. has been expanding at an exponential rate since the beginning of the pilot. With introductions for Dr. Franklin Hall, Victoria Hand, Donnie Gill and appearances for both Maria Hill and Nick Fury himself, the series shows no signs of slowing down when it comes to expanding the world of the MCU. Last week, during the semi-annual TCA tour, it was announced Thor’s Jaimie Alexander would be appearing in the 15th episode of the first season as her character, Lady Sif. But it now appears she won’t be alone.

In news released today, it’s been confirmed Thor villain Lorelei will be appearing on the Lady Sif episode, and that the character will be played by Elene Satine. In addition to that, it was also confirmed J. August Richards’ Mike Peterson, last seen being blown up at the hands of the woman in the flower dress, will be returning as Marvel character Deathlok in the episode airing February 4th (Stan Lee has also been confirmed to have a cameo in this episode). The extent and longevity of Richard’s role in the show is currently unknown.

“This is a major Marvel character appearing on TV, on film for the first time,” said Marvel Television head Jeph Loeb at a set-visit TCA event today regarding the appearance of Deathlok. Executive Producer Jeff Bell went on to add “You are in the back half of the movie… We set it up, now we’re going to pull the trigger.”

There’s a lot to process here. Two confirmed comic book characters debuting on television, a major crossover, promise of pay-off to set-up plotlines, it’s all very exciting for both fans of the show and fans of the MCU (and Marvel) in general.

The news of Deathlok also seems to further increase speculation on how Coulson is alive. Could those LMD theories hold more water than we initially thought? Hopefully we’ll know sooner rather than later.

First person to come to mind as the Clairvoyant is Madame Web. While the original is considered a Spider-Man character, the current, the 2nd Spider-Woman, actually has very little tie to Spider-Man other than possibly inspiring the design of the black alien costume which became Venom.

  2. true believer says:

The fact that Stan lee marvels main person is appearing on the show should make everybody realize they can do wat ever they want its his show

  3. Niloc says:

I wonder what Rich Buckler thinks about Deathlock coming to TV?

  4. Chip says:

First person to come to mind when hearing about the clairvoyant was Kang the conqueror.

  5. Wesley says:

I am VERY excited about the Deathlok news! Maybe what kept Coulson alive was a variation on what Centipede did to Mike Peterson. The LMD thing just doesn’t seem a very likely scenario to me.
As far as I’m concerned, MAOS is a great show and everyone involved is doing a stellar job of expanding the existing Marvel Cinematic Universe. A lot of people complained that it didn’t tie into the Marvel U enough, but it’s doing so in a BIG way now. You couldn’t just have a whole bunch of superheroes in the show from the beginning, because the show wouldn’t be about the AGENTS, it’d be about the heroes; and the fact that, like police officers, firemen and real federal agents who risk their lives everyday, Coulson and Co. are more heroic because they face all these challenges with their wits, brains and brawn. That’s a more interesting show, to me.
And it’s Joss Whedon! He’s brought us Buffy, Angel, Firefly/Serenity, Dollhouse and the Avengers, the #1 Superhero movie in history. I think it’s safe to say he and all the people working with him on MAOS know what they’re doing.

  6. SHADOW EAGLE says:

the first season of all the good series took a lot of time and energy to build back story…. just hang in. qamericans are so rush rush rush…. Al the Treks, and BSG, B5, XFiles, etc, all went thru the same thing… and it’s always have been worth it. Be happy we got real stories and not more ‘Reality’ TV

  7. Magnus the Red says:

It’s too bad Fox owns the rights to all the FF characters. The Clairvoyant sounds an awful lot like Dr. Doom (a man of science who also dabbles in magic).

  8. Kent says:

“We have seen an Iceman clone”

Umm sorry he is not an iceman clone, he’s Ironman foe Donnie Gill, AKA the Blizzard. Same name as in the comics, different origin, but same character.

  9. Kevin Barnett says:

    The original robocop

  10. Mike says:

Some of the episodes has been good. I guess I just expected it to be better than it is. Maybe it is just the slow building of the back stories that is bugging me. It seems like the story arc is moving really slow though. It does not help that I am really not a fan of the centipede story line.

  11. Mark says:

The Human Torch is actually a “mutate.” Spider Man is also a mutate. “Mutate is a term used to refer to superhumans who acquired their superpowers by exposure to some mutagenic compound or energy (either accidentally or deliberately). Unlike Marvel’s Mutants, Marvel’s Mutates require external stimuli to acquire their powers (i.e. they weren’t born with the potential to manifest powers). Unknown to nearly the entire population of the Marvel Universe, the powers and abilities of Earth’s Mutates and Mutants alike are the direct result of the genetic manipulations of the Celestials in humanity’s distant past, who placed dormant genes within one cross-section of humanity, and the active Deviant and Eternal genes in other cross-sections. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mutate_(comics)

  12. Greg says:

The only confirmation I truly care about is when they reveal Coulson as Vision. If that is not where this leads, then its a major failure. just replace Human Torch with Agent Coulson, talk of LMD’s, the fact that we saw his brain being scanned, his ties to Ultron (the next the Avengers baddy) and a Joss Whedon knowing what he’s doing….

  13. Terrell C. Brown says:

the Human Torch Isn’t a mutant lol get it together people

  14. Matt Carter says:

regards to raul, donnie gill is the name of the villain Blizzard, recently of Thunderbolts, and Iron Man fame. While he may have been engineered as Ice Man rip of, that would have been something done by the creators years ago, not the producers of shield.

  15. Kris says:

Agents of Shield isn’t as good as i had hoped. I think it would probably be a show that if you binged through might be a bit better though.

  16. Belly says:

Remind me of the human torch/sun fire clone, what episode was that?

  17. corvus says:

It is indeed the Blizzard & Donnie Gill was the 2nd person to be called that. The first was Gregor Shapanka who was originally known as ‘Jack Frost’. Both get powers from a special suit and were originally Iron Man villains.

It’s “Scorch” not Torch (also Torch isn’t a mutant) and there have been 4 (probably) unrelated ‘Scorch'(es) in the Marvel Universe. The one most likely being adapted here is a very minor villain from a Night Thrasher comic book. That character was Tommy Ngh and he was a mutant pyrokinetic. This character might have went on to appear in 4 issues of Solo but it doesn’t seem like the same character.

  18. Kinowolf says:

Blizzard and Torch were both pre-existing characters. What they are doing is coming up with alternative back stories for mutants like Torch to avoid the mutant question.

  19. Synnerman says:

The ice using character isn’t Iceman. It’s a pre-existing villain named Blizzard who is not new.

  20. Bill says:

By Odin’s beard, it’s “Sif” with just one “f”.

  21. Bob says:

I definitely read that as “Deathklok to join MAoS”. Now that I would watch.

  22. Raul says:

I believe Marvel is also tring to make copies of the characters they do not have movie rights for. We have seen an Iceman clone, and a human torch/sun fire clone.

My theory on Gent Coulson, is that he is a shape changer, like back in the 1960’s x-men story where prof. X is replaced by a shape changer.

  23. Kim says:

Seems Barr doesn’t watch the show :p

Mike Peterson was seen at least once since he was supposedly blown up so the viewers know he is alive and once more being used by Centipede through an eye-implant. We also now know (at least to a large degree) how Coulson survived being stabbed. Although we don’t yet know exactly why they went through all that trouble to save his life.
