COMMUNITY’s Rob Schrab to Direct THE LEGO MOVIE 2

All Oscar snubs aside, everything is shaping up to be pretty awesome for The LEGO Movie 2. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Community writer-director Rob Schrab has been tapped to direct the follow-up to one of our favorite films of 2014.

Warner Bros. had initially tapped Chris McKay to direct The LEGO Movie sequel, but after speaking with original LEGO Movie directors Phil Lord and Chris Miller, the trio decided to move forward with a LEGO Batman spinoff film first. With McKay now attached to direct LEGO Batman and Lord & Miller only committed to pen the script and produce the sequel, it left an empty chair for the planned 2018 LEGO Movie follow-up. Now, it seems that Schrab will be the next to join the seriously funny coterie of comedic talent working on the film.

Though you may not know Schrab’s name, you definitely know his work. A frequent collaborator of Dan Harmon’s, Schrab was the creative force behind Community episodes like “G.I. Jeff”, has written for the Oscars, and has directed episodes of The Sarah Silverman Program, The Mindy Project, Childrens Hospital, Parks and Recreation, Workaholics, and many more.

Can’t wait until 2018 for more LEGO in your life? Don’t worry — the ninja-themed Ninjago is set for a September 23, 2016 release, and LEGO Batman is on track to swoop into theaters in May 2017. Or you could always, you know, buy some LEGOs and make your own movie.
