Coming to NerdMelt: Nick Thune, Harmontown, and More

Hello all, and welcome to our newest weekly round up,where we will be informing you of all the goings-on at our home away from home, The NerdMelt, in Los Angeles. All shows have advanced tickets available for $8, or can they can be picked up at the door for $10. Let’s get started.

On Saturday, May 16th, comedian James Davis hosts the Urban Dictionary live show. Davis, along with friends Al Mardrigal (The Daily Show) and Neal Brennan (The Chappelle Show), will be using his unique “hood-adjacent” brand of comedy to bring laughs and a little bit of knowledge, as you also learn some new slang terms. You know what Urban Dictionary is; well, now it’s also a live comedy show. Show starts at 9pm.

Tuesday, May 19th, will see a one-hour stand-up set from comedian Nick Thune, aptly named “One Hour With Nick.” If you are not familiar with Nick, his shows incorporate a blend of music and comedy backed by a boyish charm. You may recognize him from Don’t Trust The B—- In Apartment 23, and his stand-up special Folk Hero is currently on Netflix. Show starts at 9pm.

On Thursday the 21st, NerdMelt will host the first of a monthly installation, Derek and Ptolemy’s Teacher’s Lounge. The NerdMelt stage will welcome The Nerdist School’s own faculty and friends for a night of Improv insanity. These veterans of improv prove their craft in a night of reasonable wild abandon, with special guests not yet announced. Show starts at 7pm.

The weekend sees two nights of fun and alternative comedy. Brandie Posey and Sam Varela will host Picture This! on Saturday, the 23rd, at 7pm. In a twist on the conventional concept of live comedy, Picture This! offers stand-up comedy performed while the comedian is drawn by some of the best animators and artists in the business. The show will be be FREE thanks to Bento Box Entertainment (Bob’s Burgers, Brickleberry). Then, on Sunday the 24th, Dan Harmon will take the stage at NerdMelt at 8pm for Harmontown. A show that could really end up being anything that comes to mind. Freestyle rap, celebrity guests, and even prank calling Chevy Chase are all a possibility when in Harmontown. Harmontown is a $10 show.

Monday, the 25th, NerdMelt will host a free Open Mic show at 5pm.

Meltdown

Wednesday the 27th (and really, every Wednesday), marks yet another journey into The Meltdown at 8:30pm with Jonah Ray and Kumail Nanjiani. Whether its full of big names or up-and-comers, The Meltdown is always a night to remember.

Thursday the 28th offers a double dose of hilarity. First, Alex Edelman’s Millennial will make its NerdMelt premiere at 7pm. The wildly acclaimed and award winning show, takes a humorous look at what it means being a young person in the world today. At 9pm, Beowulf Jones hosts Risk! in which guest will tell stories they never thought they would tell others, especially on stage. Get ready to feel the awkward with stories from Greg Fitzsimmons, Nicole Byer, and more.

Finally, Friday the 29th sees another back-to-back run of comedy starting at 7pm with The Last Comedy Show. In a desolate wasteland, only one free stand-up and variety show, hosted by Brad Gage and Anna Akana, can bring an oasis of laughter. Dave Ross, Annie Lederman, and Josh Mattingly join in on the fun, and there is also Improv from Pizzacat Cat. Then at 9pm is LoopdeLoop. LoopdeLoop is a bi-monthly mini animation festival. Short, looping animations from all over the world will be screened, applauded and judged by the audience. The screening is free and you can even submit your own animation (deadline May 17th). Please RSVP for the show and arrive early to assure entrance.

That’s all we have for you at the moment, friends. Be sure to check back with us every week for even more from NerdMelt and The Nerdist School.
