Geoff Johns will send you a check for DC Rebirth if you don’t like it

So you might have heard, but a little book came out from DC Comics this week called DC Universe Rebirth. Without going into spoilers (which the internet has already leaked well before the book came out, sadly) I will say that A: It’s really good (read my review! Shameless plug!) and B: If you don’t like it, writer Geoff Johns will cut you a check for $2.99. Seriously, he said so.

In a recent interview, Johns was so confident that you’d love Rebirth, he said “It’s $2.99 for 80 pages. It’s not a lot. If anyone wants to check out comics, wants to check out DC Universe Rebirth #1 and doesn’t like it, they can mail [the comic book] to Warner Bros., to me, and I will send them a check, I literally will, for both postage and for the book. I will buy all these books back because I believe in this issue a lot. I think it’ll do very well. I hope it does well. But I seriously will, I’ll buy back this book.” That, ladies and gentlemen, is confidence. [Comic Book]

DC Superhero Girls expected to make $1 billion dollars

While this isn’t exactly a comic book story per se, it’s incontrovertible proof that hey, guess what? Girls like comic books and superheroes too! It’s being reported that DC’s “Superhero Girls” initiative of licensed products and animated shorts is looking to make $1 billion dollars in profit for Warner Brothers very soon. Speaking to Forbes, DC’s Diane Nelson said “Our overall consumer products represent a $6 billion business. The DC brand brings in about half of that. We think the DC Super Hero Girls can be bigger than a $1 billion brand,” So take that, patriarchy. [Newsarama]

Marvel NOW! returns this Fall

It seems like every Fall from now on, Marvel is looking to restart their titles at #1, and now they’re going back a few years to use and old initiative’s name to do it. Coming in Fall 2016 it’s Marvel NOW! all over again. What this means is that the books will probably all get new #1 issues, and fresh starting points for new readers, but not a whole lot more. So don’t expect some huge universe-changing event.

This seems to be how Marvel will do it from now on, treating the fall like networks treat TV shows. The new Marvel NOW! will feature new titles spinning out of the events of Civil War II. The new series will be revealed in the Marvel NOW! Preview Magazine releasing on July 13. [Comic Book]

Legend of Zelda manga possibly coming to North America

Hey look! Fans of green hats, Triforces, and female royalty will be extra happy to learn that the acclaimed manga Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess could be making its debut in the U.S. and Canada in the near future from VIZ Media. The manga premiered in Japan this past February and was based on the popular 2006 Nintendo game of the same name.

The reason this news is tentative and not a jump-up-and-down-and-be-super-duper-stoked certainty is because it was confirmed by Akira Himekawa, the duo behind the book on their Facebook page. In the statement, Himekawa stated that Legends of Zelda: Twilight Princess vol. 1, the first collected volume, would be released June 24 in Japan ,while a German and English version would be following thereafter via TOKYOPOP Deutchland and VIZ respectively. Neither of those companies could be reached for confirmation, but VIZ has announced a reprint collection of Himekawa’s earlier Legend of Zelda stories for November. So it seems promising! ComiXology Unlimited app brings Netflix model to comics

You know how difficult it is to go to a store and buy comic books… I guess? Well now bringing comic books to your face is easier than ever thanks to the new ComiXology Unlimited app — a Netflix of comics titles for $5.99 per month. While it won’t include DC or Marvel titles, you will be able to get back issues of Image Comics, Dark Horse Comics, IDW Publishing, BOOM! Studios, Oni Press, Kodansha Comics, Fantagraphics, Valiant Entertainment, and others.

The catch here is, of course, that most new titles will still have to be bought individually via ComiXology’s regular app, but if you’ve been wanting to catch up on stuff like The Walking Dead, Hellboy, and Scott Pilgrim, this will be your thing. Captain America Ain’t No Hero No ‘Mo

And, as you’ve probably heard, the comic book world shed a collective series of tears with the release of Steve Rogers: Captain America #1 in which–spoilers–it’s revealed that Cap has legit been a Hydra agent since the very beginning, keeping the secret from everyone he knew…even we the reader! This, naturally, has caused a great deal of kerfuffle seeing as, in every version of the character, he’s one of the only true beacons of hope and positivity in the often dark Marvel Comics Universe.
