The Slow-Mo Guys love making videos using lots of different colors. They also love to film fire in all its beautiful glory. So it should come as no surprise that they have finally combined those two great loves to bring us a little something they call rainbow flames.

Dan and Gavin used colored tiki torch fluid (I had no idea it came in anything other than orange either) and poured the liquid into spray bottles, which they then sprayed over a blowtorch, generating fireballs of gorgeous flames in the dark knight sky. (Please don’t do this ever, at any time of day, because while it might look cool, this is dangerous.)

They filmed this in 4K super slow-mo at 1,000 frames-per-second (without the slow motion camera this isn’t even all that interesting to watch), and each burst of color conjured up its own unique associations. The orange flame, which appears to be the brightest, felt like it was about start the next Hunger Games movie. The green flame looked like someone had cast the Avada Kedavra killing curse, or possibly thrown a jar of wildfire over the wall. The blue fire looked like Queen Elsa had lost her temper, and the red flame looked like Melisandre had been practicing the magic of the Lord of Light.

…What? You didn’t think every association we’d make would be nerdy? Uh, that’s kind of our whole thing.

As pretty as they all looked individually, when shot off together they looked like a rainbow had actually sprung into action, for a brief moment, before being lost to the darkness.

Fire good, but rainbow fire gooder. (But seriously, don’t try this at home.)
