Last April, after the first weekend of Coachella 2015, I thought I would never go back. It was too good, too taxing, too everything. I saw Jack White, Drake, Steely Dan, Jenny Lewis, Alabama Shakes, and was fairly certain that no lineup would ever come close again. I am a fool.
Yesterday, Goldenvoice announced the Coachella 2016 lineup will feature reunions by LCD Soundsystem, Guns N’ Roses, in addition to medium and small print bands that I have been meaning to see for the past 12 months. Taking place during the consecutive weekends of April 15 and 22 in the parched desert of Indio, CA, Coachella continues to look like the biggest/best/most relevant mainstream music festival that North America has to offer.
After a cursory glance through this lineup, I created a quick lil road trip playlist of some of the acts I am most excited to catch this year (check it below). Some thoughts and questions right off the bat: How will Axl’s voice sound and will he actually show up? Will Sufjan Stevens’ somber, theatrical performance translate to a music festival setting? Why is Grimes‘ name so small? Justin Beiber will obviously make a guest appearance during Jack Ã’s performance of “Where Are à Now,” right? Will BÃRNS wear his beloved sunflower jacket? Will Daft Punk play at LCD Soundsystem’s house? Will LCD Soundsystem show us the ropes? I guess we will have to wait until April to find out, but let’s jam for now.
