It’s been awhile since we’ve heard anything about Marvel Television’s adaption of the popular ’80s comic book title Cloak & Dagger, but now we have our first footage from the new series, as well as an official release date. Cloak & Dagger is set to premiere on the FreeForm Network on June 7 at 8PM in a special two-hour episode. You can see the first clip below, which starts out as a “meet cute” between our title heroes, only one that turns out to be not quite so cute.
Here’s the official description of the series from FreeForm:
âMarvelâs Cloak & Daggerâ is the story of Tandy Bowen (Olivia Holt) and Tyrone Johnson (Aubrey Joseph) â two teenagers from very different backgrounds, who find themselves burdened and awakened to newly acquired superpowers which are mysteriously linked to one another. Tandy can emit light daggers and Tyrone has the ability to engulf others in darkness. They quickly learn they are better together than apart, but their feelings for each other make their already complicated world even more challenging.”
In the original comic book series, the title characters were teenage runaways who met in New York City, although judging from the clip shown it appears that location has been changed to New Orleans. Although originally their powers were described as having been given to them via an experiment done on homeless kids by a shadowy organization, that looks to be changed for the television version. They were also revealed to be latent mutants, but until the ink dries on the Disney/Fox deal, don’t expect Disney’s first mutants to be Cloak and Dagger.
Another big change from the comics are the characters’ costumes — or total lack thereof. This makes total sense, as Daggers costume was a skin tight catsuit with a cleavage revealing slit down to her belly button. This is maybe not needed in 2018 for a teenage heroine. Although she did have a cool white facial tattoo that we might eventually see. However, Cloak’s superhero name being Cloak, I’d expect we’ll see his costume at some point, since it’s just basically a black cape with a hood. Can’t go wrong with that look.
FreeForm revealed a ton of footage from several of their upcoming shows at their first ever FreeForm Summit, including some new footage from Cloak & Dagger, which you can view here.
What do you think of Marvel’s latest television series? And is there any other relatively obscure Marvel series you’d think would make for a good YA series? Power Pack anyone? Let us know your thoughts down below in the comments.
