The wait is over! Gears of War creator and outspoken voice of the video game world Cliff Bleszinski has finally spilled the beans on his next project and BossKey Studios’ inaugural title. Formerly codenamed Bluestreak, the game will now don the title LawBreakers, and will be a first-person shooter centering around 5 vs. 5 multiplayer matches.
The game takes place in a during a futuristic time period, where the government conducted secret experiments on the moon, only to have catastrophic effects on the Earth’s environment and gravitational field. Though humanity has rebuilt, people have gained superhuman abilities from being exposed to low-gravity areas and taking supplements. Now, gangs have unified into a super-cartel, leaving law enforcement agencies to band together in order to take them down once and for all. As the trailer reminds us, you either uphold the law…or you break it.
Given what we know thus far, LawBreakers will be akin to most current day shooters, with all of the verticality and immense weaponry to which current day gamers have become accustomed. According to Bleszenski, the three main pillars to the game are “gangs, guns, and gravity.” He also noted that the game is a “new FPS that’s all about skill, not streaks.” This news is sure to resonate well with fans of PC shooters, which tend to be more skill-based than shooters tailored for home consoles.
Along with the technical tidbits that Bleszinski dropped, he also revealed that the game will be deeply character driven, and will feature a cast that composed of equal parts male and female playable. Good on you Cliffy! The game will being published by Nexon and is slated to release sometime next year.
