Classic Disney Characters Go for a Ride in Teacup Art Series

If you could have tea with any pop-culture character, would your spend time drinking actual tea or sitting in an oversized teacup ride? Going for a whirl sounds like the best tea party of all time and thanks to this artwork by Ashley Taylor now you can imagine your favorite characters elegantly taking a spin in color-coordinating teacups.

We’ve been graced with her whimsical art before, when she re-imagined characters as ethereal mermaids. Now these pop icons are seen relaxing in giant cups. Clearly, the ride hasn’t started, or (as anyone who has ridden a spinning teacup knows) their expressions wouldn’t be quite so calm.

Taylor’s specialty is Disney art, and her characters seem to fit effortlessly into her oversized cups. After all, Alice in a teacup just makes sense, since it’s the Mad Hatter’s tea party that inspired the Disneyland teacups ride. Beauty and the Beast is also included, which makes me realize just how many Disney animated movies prominently feature tea. Belle’s teacup is drawn as a replica of one of Mrs. Potts’ fine china, though with no noticeable chips whatsoever. Mary Poppins‘ lovely lilac cup is practically perfect in every way.

Classic geek movies also get a nod, and the teacups lovingly reflect corresponding colors. Hermione takes a respite in a Gryffindor cup; as a Slyterin myself seeing this suddenly makes me long for a green and black tea set. Morticia and Wednesday’s dark cobwebbed cup is an Addams family art tribute you never knew you needed until now.

As if tea time couldn’t get any better, everyone’s favorite witches, the Sanderson sisters, get their own Hocus Pocus Halloween-themed vessel. One can only hope the spell book has its own teacup.
