Christopher Nolan Writes INTERSTELLAR Prequel Webcomic

– SPOILERS FOR INTERSTELLAR

Love it or hate it, it’s hard to argue with the fact Christopher Nolan’s new feature film, Interstellar, is the most talked about movie of the season, if not the year. Through the eyes of the The Dark Knight director, we were taken to new worlds and galaxies, shown a form a time travel rarely seen on screen, and given another reason to appreciate celluloid projection. However, there’s one aspect of the film that would be interesting to learn more about: Matt Damon’s mysterious Dr. Mann, who shows up toward the end of the second half of the story.

Realizing audiences might want to know a little more about the scientist that ultimately went insane on a faraway planet, the good folks at Wired teamed Nolan up with award-winning comic-book artist Sean Gordon Murphy to develop a short story that gives audiences a chance to learn much more than they could have asked for.

While the panels doesn’t really add anything to the plot of the sci-fi film, it does allow us a glimpse into Mann’s mind, and an opportunity to truly understand his actions in the movie. By reading this, we get, more than ever, a sense of why Mann opted to continue alerting NASA to the belief his planet was habitable, despite the fact that, in reality, it wasn’t. So good job, Wired, this is one we’re really happy we got to see.
