Chris Evans Talks Cap’s “Dark Side” in CAPTAIN AMERICA: CIVIL WAR

As Chris Evans is eager to remind us in Nerdist’s latest sit-down with the actor for Captain America: Civil War, Steve Rogers is a man of principle. In the four big screen adventures we’ve spent with Cap thus far, we’ve watched the torn-out-of-time action hero consistently put the good of the world before his own personal needs. But as you’ll recall from a few choice words shared with Tony Stark in Avengers: Age of Ultron, even Cap himself can’t deny that there must be some darkness brewing underneath. Chatting with our own Amy Ratcliffe, Evans delves into how much of that “dark side” we’ll be seeing in Civil War, and just what exactly it means for a character like Cap to put himself first.

Evans also speaks to his handiwork with the Vibranium shield—much of which he humbly credits to the bounties of CGI, though we know there’s more skill than he’s letting on involved in handling that thing—as well Captain America’s toughest Sophie’s Choice imaginable: Bucky vs. Falcon, a pair that don’t exactly get along like gangbusters in Civil War. Whether we find Steve shifting his allegiances toward his folksy old buddy from Brooklyn or his hotshot colleague with the helpful pop culture recommendations is yet to be seen, but Evans seems to suggest it’s a bit of a bind for the compulsive people pleaser.

Keep checking back with Nerdist before Captain America: Civil War hits theaters on May 6 for more interviews with the cast and crew, and find find more of Amy’s work on Twitter at @amy_geek.
