Chris Evans is Team Iron Man in Real Life

My little heart is breaking.

Since the beginning of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Captain America has been the emotional center of the whole franchise, the pure-hearted example of what we all should strive to be. In a saga full of superheroes, he was the superhero to look up to. Many have already pledged their allegiance to Team Cap in the weeks leading up to Captain America: Civil War, but one of those people apparently is NOT the man himself, Chris Evans.

“If there really were Avengers, I would be Team Iron Man. I would. I mean, who wouldn’t?” said the traitor Chris Evans (reported by Vulture). However, despite my initial knee-jerk foul-crying, his reasoning is pretty sound. “There would have to be some sort of responsibility… You have to answer to somebody. You can’t just let this group of vigilantes answer to themselves.”

This is really the beauty of the movie Civil War; you can see both sides of the argument, with Tony Stark voting for government oversight and Steve Rogers voting for autonomy of the Avengers. You can see where they’re coming from. But, Steve thinks people are inherently good and trustworthy, and Tony thinks people certainly aren’t…because he’s not.

And even though it sort of hurts my nerd brain to think that the guy playing Captain America doesn’t inherently agree with Captain America, we have to remember that Steve Rogers is a WWII-era guy who fought against Hydra and the Nazis, two of the worst fascist regimes ever. It makes sense for him to be wary of too much government control.

But, also, like, come on, Team Cap, right?
