Check Out The First Trailer For The New WGN America Series SALEM

Thanks to American Horror Story: Coven, witches are all the rage these days, and why wouldn’t they be? Witches are awesome. They’re powerful, slick, good, evil, the story potential concerning the species is vast. So of course every network under the sun is trying to do a witch series. CBS is hard at work on a reboot of Charmed and, today, WGN America released the first full-length trailer for their upcoming (and first) drama series, Salem.

According to WGN America’s release, “Salem centers the world of the most notorious witch trials in history, a period steeped in fear, suspicion, and hysteria. On an expansive set in Shreveport, La, built to reflect volatile 17th century Massachusetts, Salem explores what really fueled the town’s infamous witch trials and dares to uncover the dark, supernatural truth behind them. In Salem, witches are real, but they are not who or what they seem.”

With a look that screams AHS: Coven: Ye Olde Edition, the writing of Brannon Braga and the suaveness of Nikita’s Shane West and Human Target’s Janet Montgomery, Salem could go either way. The trailer looks a little goofy, but it also looks dark, and potentially dramatic. There’s definitely plenty of show to mine from the Salem Witch Trials, and well, everyone loves a supernatural period piece.

Salem premieres Sunday, April 20th on WGN America.

WGN is a Chicago station that has been national on cable and sat outlets for a very long time, so I am guessing WGN America is their new non-Chicagocentric network. Or maybe it still will be a Chicagocentric network.

You mentioned evil, but you forgot the devil worshipping part.
