Ever since we found out Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Channing Tatum were friends, our dream journal has essentially become incredibly elaborate fan fiction involving the two talented actors joining forces for a bawdy musical comedy outing. And as it turns out, blindly faxing pages to their agents has finally worked in our favor, as the duo have announced they’re doing just that. Now excuse us while we take a moment to squee.
Now, very few details are yet knownâaccording to the exclusive report from The Hollywood Reporter, the film is described as an R-rated musical comedy about two pilots. So it feels safe to assume Tatum and Gordon-Levitt are the pilots in question. But this revelation also confirms that this isn’t in any way connected to the Guys and Dolls remake FOX wants the duo to do (once Danny Strong finishes the script). This film is being set up at Universal.
And it’s got some serious musical chops involved: Marc Platt, who produced the profoundly successful Wicked, is on board to produce this as well, with Michael Bacall writing the script he and Gordon-Levitt dreamed up. (Fun fact: Bacall also worked with Tatum on the 21 Jump Street movies. So, y’know, it’s basically a funny family affair!) Nerdist has reached out to Universal for comment but has not heard back at the time of publication.
So now all we have to do is sit back, wait, and get our bodies ready for these two to dust off their dancing shoes and give us the big, swear-y, musical reprieve of our dreams.
Because like, it’s going to be amazing, right? RIGHT?!
