Channel Your Inner Doc Brown with a DIY Flux Capacitor

We are only a few short days away from the arrival of Marty McFly and Doc Brown, as they visit us from 1985 (I am hoping their experience is a little bit better than this). Thanks to Dustin McClean and the DIY Pro Shop, you can go back and warn them that they DO need roads.

In the above video, Dustin walks us through how to take everyday objects and create a replica of the Flux Capacitor. Since Dustin didn’t give himself a massive concussion first, this version is merely a prop, and can’t actually help in creating alternate 2015s, 1985s, or 1885s.

Dustin started off with a cardboard box as the base, which he coated with gray primer. Using a step drill bit, he cut holes in the back of the box so he could feed LED lights ropes through. This created the iconic “Y” symbol. After more painting to create the cables, Dustin finished it off with a label maker and transparency paper to create something anyone would be proud to place in their car.

You can check out more from Dustin and DIY Pro Shop at the Awe Me YouTube channel here.

So what do you think? Have you already placed your Flux Capacitor in the back of your car? Were you disappointed when you realized time travel cannot be achieved with cardboard and superglue? Is Back to the Future the only reason you are currently paying attention to baseball? Let me know on Twitter or sound off in the comments below.
