On the night where everybody wanted to be Leonardo DiCaprio, everybody was.
Following Leoâs first and long-awaited Oscar win, Vanity Fair took to the red carpet to âmasqueradeâ in his likeness. They used MSQRDâa Snapchat-esque app that allows people to swap faces with celebritiesâto capture other celebrities as they donned a Leo mask. Many of them then spoke as if they were the now-Oscar-winning star of The Revenant.
âFinally something has gone right for me. Iâve won an Oscar,â said BJ Novak, wryly suggesting that DiCaprio hadnât exactly lived a rough life before the win. The storyline of the movie starâs Oscar losing streak (heâd been denied the Best Actor award three previous times, for The Aviator, Blood Diamond, and The Wolf of Wall Street) probably hasnât garnered much sympathyâconsidering the actual hardships that exist in peopleâs lives. Still, who doesnât feel just a little better now that we live in a world in which Leonardo DiCaprio has won an Oscar.
âOh itâs Leonardo DiCaprio,â said James Corden in Leo mask. âSo this is me as Leonardo DiCaprio. Itâs not too different is it? Get off of me you big bear!â
Mindy Kaling, Patrick Stewart, Vince Vaughn, Michael Strahan, Judd Apatow, and Conan OâBrien all also tried on Leoâs face â with varying levels of amusement. Larry David wasnât into it all, and Leoâs mom already knew all about the app. âOh I know thisâheâs done that for me,â she told the Vanity Fair rep, obviously over it.
You, too, can try on Leoâs face with the MSQRD app in hand. Check out the video above and let us know what youâd say in your brief foray as an Oscar-winning Leonardo DiCaprio.
