Celebrate the New Year with Marvel’s 1981 Calendar Because You Can

Did you know that years repeat themselves? Don’t worry. You’re not in the Matrix or experiencing some kind of weird Inception moment. It’s true. There is exactly 1 extra day per 52 week cycle, so you’re pretty much guaranteed to get a year every 6 and 11 years where the days and dates match up with years that came before. (For Leap Years, it’s every 28 years.)

Because of this craziness resulting from the Gregorian calendar, which is the default international calendar today, that extra day each year means that we can share this incredible Marvel calendar from 1981 with you here on the internet, and you could feasibly apply it to your everyday life because all the dates and days line up with 2015.

Feast your eyes on the gorgeous art in these babies.

And thanks to the awesome work of cartoonist Mark Anderson who found and posted these bad boys online, there are even shots of the front and back cover of the calendar for you to drool over. If you want to grab the full-resolution scans that he posted and make them your wallpaper, we wouldn’t blame you. We maybe did that already. They’re gorgeous!

Now you can enjoy the passing of days in the company of superheroes as drawn by the likes of Frank Miller, Bill Sienkiewicz, and George Perez as well as many, many more. Or you can just print these all out on high quality paper and frame them. Nothing is made quite like these anymore. Plus, you’ll want to reuse them again in another 11 years and be reminded again that the world (and the calendar) is weird.

Well, thanks for the thought. The samples on this page are a bit small for printing. (Ant-sized?)  But the Mark Anderson link above does take you right to the good stuff. Happy 1981/2015!
