Celebrate STAR WARS Reads Day with These Green Tea Yoda Cookies

“Always pass on what you have learned.” – Yoda

October 11 is Star Wars Reads Day, a day for fans to come together to celebrate reading and Star Wars.

An event launched in 2012 by Lucasfilm and its publishing partners, Star Wars Reads Day gathers fans from all over the world for a day of fun-filled events that include author signings, cosplayers and parties for all ages.

To celebrate this day of bookwormery and education, make up some Green Tea Yoda cookies! Tinted naturally with green tea powder, these cookies are the best in the universe. Yoda even has on his reading glasses. After all, he is over 800 years old, you can’t blame him if his eyes are a little strained.

Star Wars Reads Day Yoda Cookies recipe

Star Wars Reads Day Yoda Cookies
– makes 24 cookies

Ingredients
– 3 cups all-purpose flour
– 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
– pinch of salt
– 1 Tablespoon matcha (green tea powder)
– 1 cup (2 sticks) unsalted butter, softened
– 1 cup sugar
– 1 egg
– black icing
– white icing

In a medium bowl whisk together the flour, baking powder, salt and matcha.

In the bowl of an electric mixer cream the butter and sugar until combined.

Add the egg then slowly add in the dry ingredients until the dough comes together. The dough will form quickly, and when it starts to pull away from the bowl, it’s ready.

Split the dough into two and wrap in plastic wrap. Chill until you are ready to use.

Preheat the oven to 350 degrees. Prep baking sheets with silpats.

Roll out the dough to about 1/4 inch thick. Use your cutter to cut out the shapes and transfer onto the prepped baking sheets.

Bake for 10 minutes, let cool on a wire rack.

Once the cookies are completely cool use a #3 tip and black icing to make an outline of glasses around the eyes.

With the white icing and a #2 tip fill in the eye area, then add a circle of black icing for the pupil.

A small white dot in the center of the pupil completes the eyes.

Once the icing has set, the cookies are ready to serve.
