Celebrate 25 Years of EDWARD SCISSORHANDS with Rare Archival Photos

Director Tim Burton is forever associated with all things spooky and creepy, but also kind of lovably spooky and creepy. This goes all the way back to his film Beetlejuice, and of course extends to his Halloween classic (that he didn’t direct), The Nightmare Before Christmas. But arguably Burton’s greatest spooky-yet-lovable creation has to be Edward Scissorhands, the innocent razor-handed creature created in a spooky old castle overlooking the most suburban of neighborhoods.

Starring Johnny Depp in the title role, this was the first of eight collaborations together with Burton, and Edward Scissorhands remains Burton’s personal favorite of all of his films, and the personal favorite of many of his fans as well. Along with Depp, the cast is rounded out with other great actors, like Dianne Wiest, everyone’s favorite ’80s/’90s movie mom, Alan Arkin, Winona Ryder, and Kathy Baker as Joyce, the lonely housewife who just loves her some Tom Jones music. Edward Scissorhands was also the last on screen performance of the late, great Vincent Price.

Believe it or not, Edward Scissorhands is celebrating its 25th Anniversary this year, and to mark the occasion, Twentieth Century Fox home video has put out a new special edition of the film on Blu-ray. This version has a gorgeous new 4K transfer that brings out all the details of the film in ways you’ve never seen before, and it’s like watching the film for the very first time. The Blu-ray Collector’s Edition of the movie comes with custom paper dolls, a heart shaped cookie cutter, and a topiary air freshener that smells like fresh cut grass, recalling Edward’s favorite pastime of making topiary sculptures for (and of) his adopted family.

As part of the celebration of all things Edward, Fox has released a batch of archival photos from the film, including some rare images from scenes that were deleted from the final cut. The images feature not only Johnny Depp, but also his co-star Winona Ryder, among others. You can check out all the images in our gallery below.
