CBS Releases New SUPERGIRL Trailer

While Marvel may own movie screens all over the world, it’s pretty clear that DC Comics is kind of owning television right now. They have six series on the air this upcoming season: Arrow, The Flash, iZombie, Legends of Tomorrow, Gotham, and the biggest wildcard of them all, Supergirl on CBS, starring former Glee star Melissa Benoist as the last daughter of Krypton, Kara Zor-El. Also starring alongside Benoist are Calista Flockhart, Chyler Leigh, David Harewood, Jeremy Jordan, Peter Facinelli and Mehcad Brooks as Jimmy Olsen.

So why is Supergirl such a wildcard? While four of the five previously mentioned shows flourished on a smaller network like the CW (or, in the case of Legends, will probably flourish) where the ratings pressure is less, Supergirl is going to be on one of the four major networks. These are networks that worry less about having geeky buzz surrounding them, and worry more about just getting as many eyeballs as possible on them, which usually means procedurals, sitcoms and reality shows. If Supergirl can make it on CBS, then you’ll know that superheroes have really conquered all of pop culture, because it means there’s a good chance that even your Grandma is watching it.

Although Supergirl, which is being brought to life from the same executive producer as the Flash and Arrow, Greg Berlanti, doesn’t debut until October, it’s slowly been building goodwill among fans. A few months back they released a long promo video that was more or less the Reader’s Digest version of the pilot episode, and Supergirl also made quite the splash at Comic-Con this year as well, with the cast and crew showing up in support. And finally, on top of the new trailer, which can be viewed above, CBS also released a new Supergirl poster, also above, advertising the show’s new home this fall on Monday nights.
