Catch the First Teaser For GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY: THE TELLTALE SERIES

Last month, the SAG-AFTRA video game voiceover performers strike inadvertently revealed the existence of a Guardians of the Galaxy video game by Telltale. At the 2016 Game Awards, Telltale Games and Marvel made it official with the first teaser trailer for Guardians of the Galaxy: The Telltale Series!

The teaser really doesn’t give us much to go on in terms of story, but it does suggest that the game will take its cues from the Guardians of the Galaxy movies rather than the comics. The close up shots of Peter Quill’s walkman revealed that the tape inside was called the “Rad Mix,” instead of the “Awesome Mix” from the MCU. The trailer’s use of King Harvest’s “Dancing in the Moonlight” also evoked the soundtrack from the first Guardians of the Galaxy.

Beyond that, we don’t have many details about the new GotG game. But we do know that it will be released next year as a five-part episodic series, possibly in time for Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2‘s debut in theaters. Telltale has also announced that a season pass disc will be available for the consoles and PC; which will have the first episode and access to the four remaining chapters of the game as they get released.

It’s also expected that the Guardians of the Galaxy game will be modeled after Telltale’s popular Walking Dead, Game of Thrones, and Batman character-based games that let players make choices and explore different story branches. GotG may not have been our first choice for a Marvel Telltale game, but its cosmic setting offers a lot of possibilities. And if the game draws from both the comics and the movies, then it can potentially take the Guardians into locations that haven’t even been introduced in the MCU yet.
