The New CASTLE ROCK Trailer is Filled with Stephen King References

Setting a horror series in the shared literary world of Stephen King is one of those ideas that’s so good it feels like someone should have definitely thought of it 20 years ago. But we’re not going to complain about it being long overdue after seeing the newest trailer for the upcoming J.J. Abrams‘ produced Hulu show Castle Rock, which focuses on the terrible things that happen when an entire haunted town has been abandoned by God. It looks like it was more than worth the wait.

This latest look at the show, an original “psychological-horror series set in the Stephen King multiverse,” is full of references to the author’s past works (keep an eye out for our favorite Easter egg, a photo of a certain corrupt prison warden), but more importantly it’s also really freaking creepy. A narrator walks us through the fictional Maine town, talking to us about the mysterious and horrible past—and present—of Castle Rock, which is caught in a centuries-old cycle of nightmares and violence.

This haunting trailer perfectly captures what has us so excited about this show, because rather than being about a single demon or house, it is about an entire haunted town, all set against some of Stephen King’s best and most beloved novels. The first three episode of Castle Rock, starring André Holland, Sissy Spacek, Billy SkarsgÃ¥rd, Melanie Lynskey, Jane Levy, and Scott Glenn, will premiere on Hulu on July 25.

What was your favorite Stephen King reference here? Which stories of his do you hope make it into the show? Don’t be afraid to tell us in the comments below.
