Carrie Fisher Reveals STAR WARS VIII’s Working Title is ‘Space Bear’

It took a pretty long while for us to learn that J.J. AbramsStar Wars: Episode VII was actually called The Force Awakens, and it wasn’t long after that that we saw the first teaser. Given that Episode VIII literally just began principle photography last week, it seemed pretty unlikely for us to get a proper title already, and yet co-star and possibly the coolest person in the world, Carrie Fisher, spilled the beans via a picture posted to her Twitter profile on Friday.

That’s right, guys. The movie is called Space Bear and the logo will feature a panda in place of the letter “O” in “Episode.”

That is, of course, not real. The Star Wars films have a long history of fake working titles in order to keep lookie-loos away. Famously, Return of the Jedi was filming under the title Blue Harvest, a faux horror movie taking place in the forest. That title was then used as the third Family Guy parody episode, because in-jokes are the basis of everything great and powerful.

Whether or not Space Bear is anything beyond a silly joke (I can’t imagine it will be), the photo just cements how excellent Fisher is, and her dog Gary is still one of our favorite pups in the world of anything ever.

Star Wars: Episode VIII is filming in the UK now and will be released December 15, 2017, with a cast consisting of Mark Hamill, Carrie Fisher, Adam Driver, Daisy Ridley, John Boyega, Oscar Isaac, Lupita Nyong’o, Domhnall Gleeson, Anthony Daniels, Gwendoline Christie, Andy Serkis, Benicio del Toro, Laura Dern, and newcomer Kelly Marie Tran.
