Car Tunes and Cartoons: The Go! Team Share A Super Sunny Spring Mix

The Go! Team make exuberant pop music that resides somewhere between the cutesy affectations of Belle and Sebastian and the surfy sheen of Best Coast. Ian Parton, the founding architect of The G0! Team, composed all the music on the group’s most recent LP, The Scene Between. It is a collection of sunny tracks that are perfect aural accompaniments to life after the vernal equinox, as our brains begin to thaw and we start entertaining the idea that the outdoors are pretty and no longer adversarial. Each song on the new album showcases a different lead vocalist and the effect reminds me of when you head to the beach and several groups of friends merge into one giant happy mass, each person trading a new story with the rest of the newly formed collective.

The Go! Team’s excellent contribution to our Car Tunes and Cartoons series features one of my favorite mixes ever submitted. Utilizing original G!T music, field recordings, electronic music, and vintage surf rock, Parton’s mix is thirty minutes of unadulterated bliss. And for the group’s cartoon, they submitted a washed out, VHS-filtered, floral-patterned banner featuring their name. Straightforward, but somehow mesmerizing and definitely in theme with their ebulliently bright mix.

Ian Parton on his Car Tunes and Cartoons mix:

“heres a mix of some new G!T songs and some go team favourites: stuff taped off the TV, some chopped and channeled instrumentals, psych hoedowns, bedroom core + southern fried ass shakers…hope ya like it>>>”

Check out their new music video for the track “What D’You Say”, off their new album The Scene Between which drops tomorrow via Memphis Industries.
