Car Tunes and Cartoons: Paul From Paul & Storm Made a Night Drive Mix

Paul-night

Ah yes, nighttime. The part of the day when there are infinite possibilities until the sun comes up, and you get to focus on the one thing you really want to do, whether it is catch up on the latest episodes of Game of Thrones or Mad Men, binge on old episodes of Friends, or ditch your laptop altogether and go for a relaxing night cruise through your city to see what goes on when the nocturnal folk emerge.

It appears that Paul Sabourin of Paul and Storm would endorse that final option. For our latest edition of Car Tunes and Cartoons, the mix series in which we ask our favorite musicians to compile playlists and draw accompanying illustrations, We’ve asked both Paul and Storm to contribute two individual playlists and illustrations to complete a sonic yin-yang.

Paul’s night mix is unexpectedly smooth. I am talking like, Yacht Rock smooth. If you are into the carefree stylings of Donald Fagen, the unabashedly peppy pop of Tally Hall, or the classic glow of Van Morrison, then you are in for such a treat. I imagine Paul’s mix providing a very jarring foil to the menacing vibe that I generally associate with the night. The next time I am roadtripping solo on the highway at 2:51 AM, I am going to try out Paul’s mix and see if I am able to reconcile how I usually feel late at night with the optimistic tone of this mix. But for now, just going to bop along happily.
