Not sure how to effectively utilize your pelvis in social settings when dancing is suggested and/or applicable? Fret not, dear friends; power-pop band EZTV have laid out fool-proof directions and fashioned a late-summer evening mix in our latest installment of Car Tunes and Cartoons. Now you can practice your moves as we head into the final leg of wedding season.

The trio are a relatively new outfit, and they had just dropped their promising debut album Calling Out in early July—when the pep of guitar jangle and vocal harmonies are staples in my listening regimen. If you are a fan of Real Estate, R.E.M., Big Star, The Pains of Being Pure at Heart, or—more generally—guitar driven rock with earnest lyrics, I highly recommend this album for a Sunday morning before autumn sneaks back onto the calendar.

For the group’s mix they have included a ton of classics. Beginning with the blissful ’60s pop track “Chewy Chewy” by Ohio Express, the playlist takes a turn for more country-inflected with jams like Moby Grape’s “I Am Not Willing” and Gun Outfit’s “My Love Is Wanting Me”. It is a really diverse sampling of music that has clearly influenced the group’s sound in specific ways, and also music that you could feasibly dance along to with a partner. Though the group’s how-to-dance illustration won’t necessarily help you slow dance with your boo, I’d like to think that maybe it will cause you to practice a routine with someone and then blow everyone to f–king shreds on the dance floor. “We just wrapped up a short tour with Jacco Gardner, and opening all of the shows was our label-mate DINNER. From night one, DINNER had us in the palm of his hand. He puts on such a captivating live performance, where every song in his set has a different set of accompanying dance moves. His physicality put me in mind of a semaphore flag waver at a disco–regimented and precise each night, but vibrating with electric energy. So I’ve sketched out some of DINNER’S key dance moves to pair with this playlist, which is a nice cross section of what we jammed in the van on the way to shows—goofy shit to psych us up, like ‘Chewy Chewy,’ and stone cold classics like The Nerves and Bill Fox.”
