Caption Contest: Win A Bunch Of Doctor Who And BBC Stuff

One of you is going to be getting one great holiday bonus.

See, the BBC America Shop wants to get the word out that they have great gift selections and there’s still time to go over there — click here for their Holiday Gift Guide — and make your family and friends very happy indeed. You can also go here for a chance to win a pair of $500 gift cards, one for you, one for a friend. And that’s all great, but they’ve given US a bunch o’ stuff to give away, stuff that you can also buy at BBCAmericaShop.com, and what we have is… well, take a look and you be the judge:

One winner will get:

Doctor Who: Series 6, Part 1 on Blu-ray
Doctor Who: Series 6, Part 2 on Blu-ray
The Hour on Blu-ray
BBC Holiday Gift Set DVDs with holiday episodes of 13 different BBC classics, from Are You Being Served? and To the Manor Born to Ballykissangel and Monarch of the Glen
Doctor Who Tardis Mini Set (with little Eleventh Doctor and Amy Pond figures!)
Doctor Who Suit Shirt (that’s a t-shirt that looks like the Eleventh Doctor’s bow-tie and suit)
Doctor Who Talking Pen (it has a Dalek gun blast, a Dalek saying “EXTERMINATE!,” and a Cyberman saying “You will be deleted!”)
Guinness baseball cap (Guinness not included)
11th Doctor Sonic Screwdriver
Doctor Who Silence Nano Recorder

And what do you have to do to win all of that? Just come up with a clever, funny, winning caption for the picture at the top of this post, the one with Matt Smith and James Corden urgently doing… something… with a stroller and net and sonic screwdriver. What ARE they doing, or saying?  (Besides what they were doing and saying in the actual episode, that is)  That, friends, is up to you.

But you don’t have much time. Entries will be due Sunday night, December 18, 2011 at 11:59 pm Eastern time. And to make judging less of a nightmare task, let’s limit you to a maximum of two caption entries per person. We’ll be the judges and we’ll announce a winner as soon as we can, but no later than, oh, let’s say Friday, the 23rd (although it will likely be before then). All decisions of the judges will be final, so no complaining. All right, some complaining, but do it to yourself, preferably muttered under your breath.  Same for this restriction: U.S. entries only, because BBC America Shop can only ship to U.S. addresses.  Sorry about that, but it’s beyond our control.  And please don’t post entries here — only those properly submitted via email will be considered.

Anyway, once you come up with that perfect caption, send those entries to [email protected]. Get to it. Time’s a-wastin’.

——-

Okay, deep breath, and… see, we gotta do rules and stuff, because it’s 2011 and that’s just how life is these days, so here are the Official Rules and Legalese:

Official rules: No purchase necessary. Contest open to all legal residents of the United States except employees of Nerdist Industries or GeekChicDaily or contributors to Nerdist.com, or their immediate family members. Void where prohibited by law. Contest runs from 7:15 pm EST December 15, 2011 to 11:59 pm EST December 18, 2011. Winner will be chosen from all qualified entries submitted in a timely fashion to [email protected] no later than Friday, December 23, 2011 and will be judged by representatives of Nerdist.com, with selection of the winner being at the sole discretion of the judge(s). Winner will be notified by email and will be required to submit a name and mailing address for delivery of the prize; winner’s name may be posted at Nerdist.com at the sole discretion of Nerdist Industries. Still reading? Cool. Entry in the sweepstakes constitutes full and unconditional acceptance of these official rules. Chances of winning depend on total entries received. Prizes will be fulfilled by BBC America Shop, and Nerdist Industries shall not be liable for fulfillment. One entrant will be awarded a prize package consisting of Doctor Who: Series 6, Part 1 on Blu-ray; Doctor Who: Series 6, Part 2 on Blu-ray; The Hour on Blu-ray; BBC Holiday Gift Set DVDs; Doctor Who Tardis Mini Set; Doctor Who Suit Shirt; Doctor Who Talking Pen; Guinness baseball cap; 11th Doctor Sonic Screwdriver; and Doctor Who Silence Nano Recorder. In the event any element of the prize package cannot be provided as described here, winner may receive a substitute prize of equal or greater value. Additional prizes may be added to the package at the discretion of BBC America Shop and/or Nerdist Industries.

I know, I know.  But here’s some more heavy-duty contest rule language, so bear with us: Entries become the property of Nerdist Industries for purposes of conducting the contest and displaying the entries at Nerdist.com and related sites. By entering, each entrant agrees to defend, indemnify, release and hold harmless Nerdist Industries and its agents and employees from and against any and all losses, demands, damages, rights, claims, actions and liabilities of any kind arising out of or related to the entrant’s participation in the sweepstakes or the entrant’s participation in any prize-related activities (including, without limitation, any property loss, damage, personal injury or death caused to any person(s)). The prize package winner assumes all liability for any injury, death, or damage caused, or allegedly caused, by participating in this sweepstakes or use or redemption of the prize. But let’s hope that the winner doesn’t try to kill anyone with the Talking Pen or anything like that.  Hold on, not too much more. Any disputes that may arise hereunder shall be governed in all respects by the laws of the State of California without regard to the conflicts of laws principles of any jurisdiction. Venue with respect to any such disputes shall be had in the state and federal courts of the State of California. All taxes are the responsibility of the sweepstakes winner, who may receive an IRS Form 1099 reflecting the final actual value of the prize, if applicable.

All right, then, let’s take our lawyers’ hats off — actually, I don’t know what a lawyer’s hat would be, and I went to law school — and our thinking caps on — I’ve never seen a thinking cap, either, and I… um… what? Hmm. All right, get working on those captions, and good luck.
