There have been whispers across the Marvel fandom for some time now that we could expect Carol Danvers (a.k.a. Captain Marvel), whose own standalone film is set to release in March of 2019, to show up in one of the Avengers films as well. Though Marvel insisted that Danvers would not be making an appearance in Infinity War, the internet has been abuzz with unconfirmed rumors concerning the character’s involvement in Avengers 4, and sightings of Brie Larson on the May 2019 film’s set. And now, we have official word on the matter.
In an interview with Indiewire, Feige not only confirmed that Captain Marvel will appear in Avengers 4, but that her story will be a huge part of the conclusion of Marvel’s Phase 3. As Feige explained, “Weâre really focusing on Captain Marvel and the work that Anna and Ryan are doing. Itâs going to be a big part of heading towards this epic conclusion and epic finale of 22 movies over the course of 10 years. Really, the focus now is on delivering Captain Marvel and then bringing Captain Marvelâs story into the finale of everything weâve started thus far.”
With the huge success of DC’s Wonder Woman, it’s great to see that Marvel will also be investing in their female characters, a whole lot of whom will be introduced in Thor: Ragnorak and Black Panther. On Captain Marvel, Feige doesn’t get into specifics of how her story will bleed into Avengers 4. However, since the Captain Marvel film is set in the ’90s, it stands to reason that when we first meet her in Avengers she’ll already be an established hero, and the standalone film will give us her origin story.
