CAPTAIN AMERICA: THE WINTER SOLDIER Gets 80s Direct-To-Video Send Up

Without a doubt, one of the best movies of 2014 – not just superhero movies, but overall – is Marvel’s spring release, Captain America: The Winter Soldier. From the collapse of S.H.I.E.L.D. to the introduction of Falcon, few films delivered on everything they promised and more the way the First Avenger sequel did. Now months removed from the film’s debut, many are reliving their experience on home video, but one fan wasn’t satisfied with simply re-watching the Marvel film. No, they had to take things one step further by cutting a trailer that harkens back to the old-school direct-to-video releases of ’80s past:

We’re just gonna let you sit with that amazingness for a moment… Processed? Cool, because we need to discuss this fine piece of fan editing further.

What’s perhaps most humorous about this “trailer” is the fact that Captain America actually did receive a direct-to-video release in 1992, though we can assure you this trailer is way better than anything contained in the Matt Salinger-starring film. Yes, there was a point in time when J. D. Salinger’s son was wielding the unbreakable vibranium shield of Steve Rogers.

Some praise must also be given to the inclusion of old school Robocop footage in this mash-up. For some reason, the tone of the Paul Verhoeven classic seems to fit perfectly with this version of the 5th highest grossing movie of the year. Can we vote that ChiefBrodyRules tackle Guardians of the Galaxy next? It’s totally prime for a little direct-to-video inspiration.
