As truly sad as it’s been for the geek community to lose a beloved icon like Star Trek legend Leonard Nimoy, one of the positives has been the fan’s outpouring of love and gratitude for Nimoy in so many great and creative ways, both on the internet and in real life.

One of the coolest ideas so far has come from the Canadian Design Resource (CDR) which inspired fans via Twitter with a unique way to honor the actor, encouraging Canadian fans to “Spock their fives”. According to CDR’s publisher Todd Falkowsky, “The existing portraits are quite large and can be improvised easily, and the color of our fives are the same blue as Spock’s uniform,” which is pretty convenient.

Although it’s not technically illegal in Canada to write or “de-face” any legal tender, it is highly discouraged to write or draw on any kind of banknotes, as it supposedly limits the life of the bills, and then ultimately costs taxpayers more money. Regardless, fans have been doing it anyway, and turning former Prime Minister Sir Wilfrid Laurier into Mister Spock (and even Harry Potter’s Severus Snape) on the bill. This isn’t even a new thing exactly, and there’s even been a Facebook page dedicated to the art of “Spocking Fives” since 2012.

So enjoy some of these “Spocked Fives”, even if some of them do look a bit more like Spock’s father Sarek, or even Elrond from the Lord of the Rings, at least the fans had their heart in the right place when they made them.
