Calm Down, Ice-T Thinks DUNGEONS AND DRAGONS Is Cool

Everyone take a deep breath. Ice-T doesn’t dislike Dungeons and Dragons. It’s true that he was caught by surprise when arrived to the recording booth and had to read a D&D audiobook; he didn’t know what to do with the material. He described the experience on his Final Level podcast and used some uh, colorful, language. Some people construed his poking fun at the text as hate, but now, he’s setting the record straight.

In the newest episode of his podcast, “Don’t Hate the Player, Hate the Mage,” Ice-T and his co-host Mick Benzo revisit the subject. Ice-T clarifies his comments, explaining he was simply remarking on the difficulty of reading the words. Regardless of your feelings about D&D, you can’t argue with the fact that the language can be cumbersome. And if you’re in a recording session and you’ve never read anything like it before? It’s a challenge.

Ice-T is cool with the game, though. From his podcast:

“I have nothing against Dungeons and Dragons, geeks, or nerds. I told you I just hate dumb fucks.”

“What wouldn’t Ice-T like about a dungeon… or a motherfuckin’ dragon? That shit sounds dope to me.”

He went on to say that he acted out all the characters in the book, including Drizzt Do’Urden, three women, and a talking sword. He also mentioned he’s becoming more familiar with the game, and not only does he want to play, he wants to become a Dungeon Master.

Who wants to join Ice-T’s gaming group? Let us know in the comments.

  13. Jim says:

This should totally be a contest that Nerdist sponsers. Win a night of D&D for you and a handful of your closest gaming buddies with Ice-T as your DM! I would totally enter. And Hardwick should play too.

  14. GMRKitty says:

Depends … What edition is he playing?

  15. Michelle says:

I LOVE ICE-T!! I’m a gamer, a geek, and a nerd. And He’s right…reading the D&D books silently can be messed up enough but to read them aloud when you’ve no basis for reference because you’ve never experienced them…well that’s just crazy! I’m glad he did it though!!

I would give anything to be a part of Ice – T’s gamer group!!! You kidding me? Where do I sign up??? Think he’d be interested in learning Magic The Gathering??? 🙂

  16. VonnegutLives says:

The only Ice T I want running my D&D game is the one voiced by PFT. I would also take Andrew Lloyd Weber, actual or PFT, your choice.

  17. Ric says:

Especially if he’s played by Paul F. Tompkins.

  18. Lurch1111 says:

I’m still trying to wrap my head around the idea that someone thought Ice-T’s voice would be a good fit to narrate a D&D audiobook.

  19. Orange Joe says:

Yes! God yes! Who wouldn’t want him as a DM?

  20. Xanthais says:

I’ve been gaming for decades, and I’d love to run in Ice-T’s group! But only if I can do some fly-by archerings in the kingdom of Comptonesti!
