Whenever a new Call of Duty game rolls around, we’re always excited to see the new twist they put on the beloved Zombies mode. The one that launched with last year’s entry, Call of Duty: Black Ops III, for instance, sported a ’40s film noir theme (and Jeff Goldblum!). With Infinity Ward’s Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare taking players to space, it’s only natural that we’d get intergalactic zombies, right? Right! The good news is that’s exactly what we got. To add a little extra icing to the cake, the developer has thrown the ’80s era, and celebrities like David Hasselhoff into the mix… and it’s as amazing as it sounds.
In the official “Zombies in Spaceland” trailer (which you can check out above), we saw the zombified representation of our ’80s fad obsessions. Side ponytail/off-the-shoulder shirt combo? Yep! Legwarmers, Mohawks, and Letterman jackets? Duh. And what period piece would be complete without Frankie Goes To Hollywood’s famous tune “Relax”? It’s hard to count the many things we loved about it.
For a better taste, here’s the official premise:
Zombies in Spaceland tells the story of four aspiring actors who come upon a mysterious movie theater for an audition. Theyâve been invited by director Willard Wyler, portrayed with voice and likeness by Paul Reubens (Pee-weeâs Big Holiday, Gotham), who was once the shining star of the horror genre. Unbeknownst to the actors, they will be transformed into characters and transported straight into Wylerâs film to fight against waves of zombies in a space-themed amusement park set in the â80s.
Fans will be able to pick from four ’80s archetypes: the jock, nerd, rapper, and the valley girl. Like the Zombies co-op modes in the past, the cast is star-studded with folks like the Hoff, Seth Green, Jay Pharoah, Suicide Squad‘s Ike Barinholtz, and SNL‘s Sasheer Zamata.
âCall of Duty and zombies in particular has such an incredible history with passionate fans, which inspired us to take all the co-op action that has made the series so great and fuse it with one of our favorite decades in pop culture: the â80s,â said Brian Bright, Project Director at Infinity Ward. âZombies in Spaceland is an all-new zombies experience where day-glow meets fright nights. Itâs accessible for new players, but also has a deep layer of progression, brimming with easter eggs and various game features that will be a blast for hardcore zombies fans. We canât wait for fans to go hands-on this fall.â
The cool thing is that those who pre-order will be able to grab a special pack for Spaceland, which includes bonus content and the fan-favorite Terminal bonus multiplayer map.
