CALL OF DUTY: BLACK OPS III Gets a Futuristic New Teaser

If there was any doubt that Treyarch’s next entry in the Black Ops series was headed to the future, the newest teaser trailer for their upcoming title confirmed it. Just three days before the game’s official announcement, Black Ops III’s second teaser, titled “Ember”, reveals that we’ll be headed to the year 2065. Yep, that’s right, that is a whopping 40 years after the events of the game’s predecessor Black Ops II, and even 11 years past the timeframe seen Sledgehammer Games’ Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare.

The next question a lot of people had on their minds after seeing the first teaser was: will BlOPS III feature enhanced limbs? The answer, according to the teaser, is yes. Starting in the early 1990s, the video takes us through the years of scientific advancements, touching on things like wearable technology, prosthetic limbs, and ending up in a world where the government supports a super soldier program in which voluntary limb replacement and neural control are the norm. As you can imagine, this is something that not a lot of people are happy to hear. The important question posed at the end is: “How far will we allow it to go?” This is the question that makes us interested to see where the plot is headed.

Black Ops III is definitely shaping up to look like a dark, yet entirely plausible future. One of the interesting things about the setting reveal however, is how differently people have been responding. While some people are all aboard the future train on this one, there are others who are still pining for the good, old-fashioned days of the first Black Ops or were looking forward to a return to World War II.

As for how the setting will change gameplay, hopefully the game’s official reveal in three days will clear that up. The enhancements showcased in the video open up a whole realm of possibility as far as movement is concerned.

So what do you think of Black Ops III‘s setting? Does the dark future excite you? Let us know in the comments below.
