Calista Flockhart Returning to SUPERGIRL, New THE TICK Images, and More TV News

The only constant is change, right? Supergirl and Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. are among the comic book shows undergoing a little renovation for their next seasons. Learn what’s up with Calista Flockhart in Supergirl, find out about the new director on S.H.I.E.L.D., see new shots from The Tick, and more in today’s TV-Cap.

Still in Charge. When Supergirl flew to The CW for season two, production headed from Los Angeles to Vancouver. Many fans were worried about what that meant for Calista Flockhart’s role, but she’s happily signed on as a recurring guest star. No, it’s not the same as her series regular role in season one, but some Cat is better than no Cat, right? Experiencing distress over this news? Remember this Cat Grant line: “As much as I love watching you millennials deny your feelings, I pay you not to have them.”

Switching It Up. Starz announced at the Television Critics Association (TCA) summer press tour that Steven Soderbergh’s The Girlfriend Experience will get a second season. The next installments will follow new characters and plotlines. [Deadline]

Could It Be? The theme/subtitle of American Horror Story’s sixth season hasn’t been officially revealed, but it looks like some set photos captured by TMZ feature the lost colony of Roanoke. One picture shows the only clue left behind by the settlers: the word “Croatoan” carved into a tree. This would certainly be appropriately creepy material for American Horror Story to explore. What do you think? [Nerdist]

Step On Up. Coulson told his team that a new director was moving into his spot on Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., and the change in command will happen in season four. Jason O’Mara has joined the cast, and he’ll be the Director of S.H.I.E.L.D. We don’t know his character’s name, but it’s a character with Marvel roots going back to the 1940s. Any guesses? [Nerdist]

No Blues Here. August 19 heralds the return of The Tick to live-action TV. Amazon has brought back the show based on the character created by Ben Edlund. They’ve shared a handful of new pictures from the project featuring Peter Serafinowicz as the buggy hero and Griffin Newman as Tick’s sidekick Arthur. See a couple more shots here at Nerdist. Casting Decisions. Starz couldn’t be at the TCAs without talking about the upcoming American Gods. Series execs Bryan Fuller and Michael Green spoke to reporters about casting decisions and the religious themes present in the show. Get the full scoop from Sydney right this way.

Mark Your Calendar for Gore. Starz also discussed Ash vs. Evil Dead at their TCA presentation because how could they not? The big news? The season two premiere is scheduled for October 2, and it’s going to be an extended episode. Ash doesn’t get to retire. Nope. Season two will be made up of 10 30-minute episodes. The cast previewed how bloody things are going to get, and you can read all about it here at Nerdist.

Going Superhero. Starz is taking a turn with a superhero drama called Tomorrow, Today. The series is being developed by Curtis “50 Cent” Jackson. It’s based on a screenplay he wrote about a veteran who gains superpowers after being experimented on by a mad scientist. [A.V. Club]

Snapchatted! Arrow’s Echo Kellum shared some pics on Snapchat that show Colton Haynes is on set. Hmm. Is he just visiting pals or is this the guest spot we knew would be coming in season five of the series? See the pics at Comic Book Resources.

Are you disappointed we won’t be seeing Cat Grant as much in the next season of Supergirl? Share your thoughts on that and go ahead and share your favorite Cat Grant quotes in the comments.
