By The Pricking Of My Thumbs, Disney To Remake SOMETHING WICKED THIS WAY COMES

By the pricking of my thumbs, Disney will remake Something Wicked This Way Comes…. Deadline is reporting that Disney has hired Seth Grahame-Smith to direct his first feature film with his version of the Ray Bradbury classic. Best known for penning the novels “Pride and Prejudice and Zombies” and “Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter,” Grahame-Smith and his writing partner David Katzenberg have become an in demand Hollywood duo, having worked closely with Tim Burton writing the screenplays for both Dark Shadows and the feature version of Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter, which Burton produced. The team are currently working on Beetlejuice 2.

According to Deadline, Grahame-Smith will pen a treatment for Something Wicked but will not direct from his own screenplay. Katzenberg will produce the remake.

Grahame-Smith has long been outspoken regarding his love for the Bradbury novel. In 2012, he participated in NPR’s You Must Read This series writing, “…Ray Bradbury’s ‘Something Wicked’ haunted me. Spoke to me. Crawled under my skin and stayed there… Bradbury’s carnival is everything we fear. It’s age and death and failure. It’s a foreign body, invading the ideal small town the way a virus invades a cell.”

Regarding his own future directorial effort, Grahame-Smith is hesitant to refer to the project as a “remake,” telling Deadline, “I’m not remaking the movie; I want the haunted atmosphere that makes the book so chilling, and I want to reinstate some of the classic scenes from the book that were missing from the ’83 film.”

What do you all think? Is it time for a cinematic update of “Something Wicked This Way Comes?” If so, is Grahame-Smith the right guy for the job? Let us know your thoughts in the comments section below!

FUC$ YES! PLEASE REMAKE THIS MOVIE AND DO THE BOOK JUSTICE! The original was good for its time but lacks the ultimate “scary scene(s)” due to older and more rigid movie censor standards.. I would LOVE to see it updated, creepier, and still have elements from the original… I vote yes!
