Bungie’s Newly Registered Trademark May Be DESTINY’s Big Fall Expansion

A couple of months back, rumors were circulating that Destiny would be getting a larger expansion in September. While we still don’t know whether that is true or not, the fact that Bungie just registered the “The Taken King” trademark on April 28th seems to suggest that this may be the title we are looking for. This news comes courtesy of NeoGAF user Kifimbo, who posted the title as well as what appears to be a logo.

“The Taken King” is listed as generic “video game software” over on the United States Patent & Trademark Office (USPTO) website. Also, the attorney on file for the project is listed as Jim Charne. Just in case you weren’t already aware, Charne is also the attorney who filed the trademarks for Destiny‘s previous expansions: “The Dark Below” and “House of Wolves”.

With the “House of Wolves” DLC releasing later this month, it wouldn’t be at all surprising if “The Taken King” turns out to be the fall content we’ve been patiently anticipating. If it is indeed more Destiny content, we can probably expect it to come with a heftier price tag, especially since the game’s expansion pass only lists the first two DLC packs.

Whatever the case, Activision is holding its latest earnings call this afternoon, so maybe they’ll talk about whatever “The Taken King” is or reveal more about what’s down the pipeline for Destiny. As for the logo, I don’t know about you, but there’s something about it that screams Hive to me.

What do you think the enigmatic trademark could be? Let us know in the comments below.
