A new Indiegogo campaign aims to cover the world in LEGO with the help of their new block-friendly adhesive tape. The Nimuno Loops are, quite simply, described as being able to “Instantly transform virtually any surfaces into a base for LEGO® components!”
Now, to be clear, this isn’t an official LEGO product by any stretch of the imagination, but it’s still pretty darn neat. Being able to build on other surfaces has long been a dream of, well, anyone who ever played with LEGO as a child. There’s only so much you can do with the standard bases, and sometimes you just wish pieces could go anywhere. The Nimuno Loops seeks to solve that conundrum with flexible strips that can be cut to size and flexed around most surfaces.
Like with any Indiegogo campaign, you can help raise the money needed for development in return for varied levels of perks. And with Nimuno Loops, the return appears to be pretty decent. Most work out to be about $5 per meter of tape and if you’re so inclined (or own a toy store) the $2000 “Distributor rate” perk gets you a half a mile of the stuff.
Our only concern–other than having to explain why everything in our life is covered in LEGO compatible tape–is the strength of the adhesive on Nimuno Loops. We love the idea of being able to LEGO-fy other surfaces but we know this is, first and foremost, for children. Should they apply this to a wall, will removing it result in chunks of paint coming with it? The video seems to suggest it’s more of a sticky gel surface that can be easily removed and re-applied but if that’s the case, how long will that last before dirt and dust works its way into it rendering it unusable? They ship out in July of 2017, so we guess we’ll find out then.
What surface would you cover with Nimuno Loops? Let’s discuss your ideas in the comments below!
