BUFFY THE VAMPIRE SLAYER Gets a Season 11 Comic, Plus a New Adult Coloring Book

San Diego Comic-Con is finally here, and with it comes a ton of news in today’s Comics Relief. Today’s edition kicks off with the announcement concerning the further adventures of  Sunnydale High’s Class Protector. Read on for all the details…

Buffy The Vampire Slayer Season 11 and Adult Coloring Book Announced

Buffy the Vampire Slayer will be celebrating the 20th anniversary of its debut on the WB network next year, and in anticipation of the big event, Dark Horse Comics is launching Buffy The Vampire Slayer: Season 11. This will be the fourth “season” of the show produced exclusively for comics, and executive produced by TV series creator Joss Whedon.

The Buffy: Season 10 creative team of writer Christos Gage and artist Rebekah Isaacs will return, with Buffy and the Scoobies still living in San Francisco, with Buffy and the vampire Spike still a happy demon-hunting couple… at least for now. Willow, Xander, and Dawn are still around, and yes, Giles is still trapped in the body of a 13-year-old. Unlike previous Buffy seasons, which ended with an apocalypse, this season will start with one.

Also coming soon from Dark Horse is the Buffy the Vampire Slayer Adult Coloring Book. The new book will showcase some 45 original black-and-white illustrations from series artists like Rebekah Isaacs, Georges Jeanty, and others, in pages that feature characters from the Buffy and Angel storylines, including both the series’ heroes and villains. The 96-page book will set you back $14.99, and is scheduled to hit this October. Buffy the Vampire Slayer: Season 11 #1 is set to hit on November 23rd. [ USA Today, CBR]

Learn how to finally color inside the lines for once. Better late than never.

70s Icons Wonder Woman and the Bionic Woman finally team up

They were the two big feminist icons of ’70s television, who kicked ass on a weekly basis and inspired little girls everywhere. Now, Lynda Carter’s Wonder Woman and Lindsay Wagner’s Bionic Woman will meet at last, in a crossover event comic from Dynamite and DC Comics, from writer and comics historian Andy Mangels.

Joseph Rybandt, the executive editor of Dynamite, said “He (Mangels) was passionate about the project and a talent we had not previously worked with. Andy is a super Wonder Woman fan and a super Bionic Woman fan.” No date has been given for the release of this comic yet, but expect to hear more about this one very soon. Hillary Clinton Gets A Little Faith…Valiant Comics’ Faith That Is

Speaking of feminist heroines, plus-size super heroine Faith has been a real hit this year over at Valiant Comics, receiving her own ongoing series recently. Now, none other than Democratic nominee for POTUS Hillary Clinton is going to be making an appearance in this fall’s Faith issue #5. The Clinton story is coming from veteran writer Louise Simonson, with art by Pere Perez.

In an interview, Valiant editor Tom Brennan explained the thinking behind the guest appearance in the series, saying, “This is a historic candidacy with Clinton and we just thought, [this is] something comics [have] done many times before, and with [Valiant] starting to come into our own as a company, we wanted to join that proud tradition” Faith issue #5 hits in November. IDW Announces Star Trek: Boldy Go

IDW’s current Star Trek series, which features the adventures of the Enterprise crew from the Kelvin timeline, is ending with issue #60. But Captain Kirk and his crew will be back in a new series right on its heels, titled Star Trek: Boldy Go, which takes place after the events of Star Trek Beyond. This fall, writer Mike Johnson and artist Tony Shasteen will return to take the crew further than ever before.

In an interview, writer Mike Johnson said, “Boldly Go is gonna be more of a serialized story, less of the bottled episodes and more of an ongoing story, for lack of a better word. We’re getting away from the sort of paradigm of you roll up to a planet, something weird happens, [you] get in trouble, you’ve got to the solve the problem. This is more throwing all of the characters into new situations. They’re not all going to be together. We’re going to follow multiple threads of the characters as they each encounter new situations.” Star Trek: Boldly Go #1 goes on sale in October. [CBR]

Rock Legends Kiss Get New Series From Dynamite

That classic rock band that refuses to die is coming to comics soon. Nope, not the Rolling Stones, I’m talking about Kiss, who once starred in a series of comics from Marvel way back in the ’70s. Now the rock group is coming to Dynamite Entertainment, in a new “dark sci-fi series” written by Amy Chu (Poison Ivy) and illustrated by Kewber Baal (Army of Darkness: Furious Road). The new Kiss series will be set “in a world without sun and a world without heroes, where four young friends embark on a dangerous mission – to uncover the truth about the mysterious Council of Elders and their underground home, the city of Blackwell. But first they need some help from the past…”

Are Kiss the four young friends, or the help from the past?? We’ll have to wait and see. Issue #1 of Kiss will feature a whopping 10 covers. The four covers highlighting a different members of the band will be illustrated by artist Goni Montes. Other artists will contribute additional covers, while other cover editions include a photo variant, a “Demon” Emoji variant, and even a coloring book cover. Kiss #1 is due sometime in November.
