Bryan Singer Will Direct the Pilot of Fox’s X-MEN Universe TV Show

17 years ago, director Bryan Singer helped usher in the modern comic book blockbuster with the first X-Men movie. And Singer’s not done yet! Singer is not only attached to executive produce Fox’s upcoming X-Men related TV pilot, he’s going to direct it as well.

The Hollywood Reporter broke the story, and this won’t be Singer’s first television gig. He previously directed the pilot episodes of House, Battlecreek, and The Munsters reboot Mockingbird Lane. Singer has also directed The Usual Suspects, Valkyrie, and Superman Returns. Of course, Singer has also directed four of the six X-Men live action movies, which suggests that Fox is serious about tying the new show into the continuity of the films. Singer is also executive producing FX’s Legion series, which will directly tie into the X-Men cinematic universe.

Burn Notice creator Matt Nix came up with the concept for the currently untitled X-Men TV series, which focuses on a family with two human parents who learn that their children are mutants. When the anti-mutant government comes after the family, they are forced to align themselves with the mutant underground and fight for their own survival. It almost sounds like the mutant underground could be a modernized take on the Brotherhood.

While it’s not likely that we’ll see the mutants from the films pop up on the TV series, we do have a few thoughts about which heroes might show up. This X-Men pilot will be in contention for the fall 2017 TV season, which means it could be coming out as soon as this year.
