Bryan Singer Teases X-MEN: APOCALYPSE & the Four Horsemen on Instagram

X-Men: Days of Future Past has been the most successful X-Men film of all time internationally, and by a significant margin too; at $712 million, it is also the biggest money earner of the entire year so far for any movie. Up until now, it was unclear if Bryan Singer was coming back to direct the next X-Men installment (for reasons we won’t get into) but, money talks, and when your movie is the biggest movie of the year worldwide, it sure helps. Today Singer took to his Instagram account and posted the first page for the script for X-Men: Apocalypse, at least partially. Most importantly, it shows that the script is being written by Days of Future Past screenwriter Simon Kinberg, joined this time by X2 writers Dan Harris and Michael Dougherty. That’s kind of an X-Men movie dream-team. So is this Singer’s way of officially saying “I’m back” or is there still some maneuvering being done behind the scenes? I imagine there will be some kind of official announcement soon.

As for what the script page reveals plotwise for X-Men: Apocalypse, well, we don’t see too much, although you can make out that the first scene is set in ancient Egypt and involves the Four Horsemen. The involvement of the Four Horsemen of Apocalypse means we might see the inclusion of Archangel, his most famous of the four minions (he was the Horseman of Death.) Altered timeline or not, Apocalypse is set in 1983, meaning that Warren Worthington III would just then be being born according to the X-Men movie universe timeline. (I’m not sure how an altered timeline can change when people were born–that’s a huge leap.) My own personal speculation is that the Horseman of Death will be non other than Logan, and that’s how Wolverine gets his adamantium claws in this new timeline, not via Weapon X, which Mystique clearly saved him from. That would save Warren Worthington to become Archangel in a potential X-Force movie, which would likely be set in the future.

What do you think about Singer’s potential return to the X-Men franchise, and the likely inclusion of the Four Horsemen? Sound off in the comments below.

  1. Why wouldn’t Wolverine have gone through Weapon X? Honestly I don’t care if it’s a big jump I want to see Archangel in this movie he was done so terribly in X3.

    • Colin says:

In the comics, he gets his adamantium from Weapon X, Magneto takes it from him, he lives without for a while, which is rough on him, and Apocalypse gives it back to him. But Apocalypse makes him a Horseman.  In the movie universe, Silver Samurai takes it from him, but timelines are an issue if you take this tack. Hmm…

  2. I’ll be first in line. They should make it a two parter, especially if it’s going to be Jackman’s last X-Men movie.

  3. Gavin Dendy says:

I wish Alfonso CuarĂ³n would be the director.

  4. Ryan says:

Did you not see the end of the days of future past film? The soldier resopnsible for taking logan to the wepon X facility pulled him up out of the river. Thats how he still got his adamantium.

    • George says:

      Yes, but it was Mystique

    • Brodus says:

No just no stop while you can, the “Soldier” also reveals itself as Mystique if you clearly looked at the eyes.

    • Jinno says:

That was Mystique disguised as him

    • Defrost says:

But it was Mystique, disguised as Striker, who saved him. An she wouldn’t experiment on Wolverine, what with her “mutant and proud” speech and all.

    • Daniel says:

Did YOU not see the end of Days of Future Past? The last shot before the credits rolled revealed that it wasn’t Stryker that pulled Logan out of the water, but Mystique disguised as Stryker.

    • nathan says:

it was Mystique in disguise as the solider

    • Ryan says:

Just re checked and yup I stand corrected, was mystiques eyes. Didn’t remember that. Well if thats the case then I’m not really happy with the possibility they’re going to completely rehash it.

      • It can’t be any worse than the Origin movie.

      • Joe says:

Completely rehash it? Wolverine (among many many others in the Marvel universe, through different timelines and continuities) has been one of Apocalypse’s Four Horsemen.

Brush up on your Marvel mythology or leave the fanboy comments to the REAL fanboys, Ryan.

PS referring to Striker (Mystique, in this case, posing) as Soldier is down right sacrilegious. WHO ARE YOU?
