Bryan Singer Offers Hints for Potential X-MEN / FANTASTIC FOUR Crossover Film

Fox has made no secret out of its desire to emulate Marvel Studios’ success with the Marvel Cinematic Universe. With that goal in mind, a crossover movie between the X-Men and the Fantastic Four seems to be inevitable.

While promoting the recently released X-Men: Days of Future Past – The Rogue Cut, director Bryan Singer said that ideas for a Fantastic Four/X-Men crossover “are in play… That would be a natural match-up because they’re both ensemble films and there is a natural mechanism by which to do it.”

Singer added that the potential crossover “deals with time. That’s all I’m going to say.”

There is also some question as to whether the new Fantastic Four movie and Fox’s X-Men films share the same world. But with the Fantastic Four, parallel worlds are never out of the question. In Marvel’s comic book universe, the Fantastic Four and the X-Men have met several times. There was even a FF/X-Men crossover story that served as a sequel to Days of Future Past!

Before Fox can go ahead with any crossover plans, it has to wait and see how audiences respond to its new Fantastic Four reboot by director Josh Trank. A Fantastic Four sequel has already been announced, but it will likely depend on the box office performance of the first film. Singer also expressed a reluctance to jump the gun on any potential crossover movie.

“We’ll have to see how the films turn out,” said Singer. “To just say you’re going to do it would be a mistake, you have to see how the films evolve before you make that decision to completely commit to that.”

Singer has also been rumored to be up for the director’s chair of Fantastic Four 2, which would make any crossover with the X-men much easier to accomplish.
