Brie Larson Explains How to Be a DJ

Finally, the Brie Larson we all really want to know: DJ Brie. Oscar-winning actress Brie Larson and angsty pop diva Brie Larson are both great, but do they roll off the tongue as well as “DJ Brie” does? Nope!

Larson, of course, is fresh off her first Oscar win, having just taken home the coveted Best Actress award for her performance as a kidnapping victim and devoted mother in Room. And before that—as has recently resurfaced—Larson was a pop star in the vein of Hilary Duff and Ashlee Simpson, the kind that tackle dudes wearing “Vote for Pedro” tees in haughty millennial music videos. The actress didn’t leave music behind altogether when she turned toward the silver screen, though. GQ just shared a video revealing the insights and life lessons of, you guessed it, DJ Brie.

“Always bring more records than you think that you need. Always bring the record that you think you definitely won’t play because it usually ends up being the record you want to play first. And always have a couple of rap or R&B jams, go-to jams that get the party turned around,” Larson told the magazine. Essentially, it seems, you should just bring every single record.

The actress/singer/DJ extraordinaire also shared a piece of advice from personal experience. “Maybe don’t play a ton of ‘60s Beatles covers in German at a Coachella party. People don’t like that.” Some people just don’t appreciate a decent German cover of a half-century-old Beatles track.

Check out the video above. Would you let DJ Brie play at your party? Do you enjoy translated covers of Beatles standards? Let us know in the comments.
