Brian Michael Bendis’ First DC Comics Story Will Be in ACTION COMICS #1000

According to a report at Comic Book, it seems that the very first DC Comics Brian Michael Bendis story will be for the hero that started it all for the company, Superman. And it won’t just be any Superman issue, but it will be the upcoming Action Comics #1000, the first ever comic book to hit four digits in its publishing. And to think, it only took 80 years to get there. DC co-publisher and superstar artist Jim Lee will provide the art for Bendis’ first story featuring the Man of Steel.

When Brian Michael Bendis was announced as joining DC Comics as an exclusive writer, the world of comics fandom all dropped its collective jaws. After all, ever since the year 2000, Bendis’ name was synonymous with Marvel Comics, having written series like Ultimate Spider-Man, New Avengers, All-New X-Men, Jessica Jones, and many, many more. But once we all got used to the idea of Bendis tackling the DC Universe, the question on everyone’s minds was “which iconic DC character would he write first?” Well, now we have our answer.

Action Comics #1000 will be an over-sized, celebratory issue, with a main story by longtime Superman writer Dan Jurgens, who famously killed off Superman in the ’90s, and who has been writing the adventures of Kal-El and family since DC Rebirth began in 2016. There will also be another leading story in the issue from current Superman creative team of Peter J. Tomasi and Patrick Gleason. The rest of the issue will be many more stories from a variety of as-yet unnamed creators, celebrating 80 years of the Man of Tomorrow. But now we know that Brian Bendis will be one of them.

Alongside the regular Action Comics #1000, DC will also release a hardcover version of Action Comics #1000: 80 Years of Superman, which will come in at over 300 pages and have lot of new and reprint material in celebration of Superman. Could Bendis’ story in issue #1000 be the start of a real run on the title? If it is, what better place to start a stint at DC Comics than the comic book that made DC what it is?

Action Comics #1000 is set to hit in April.
