BREAKING BAD Meets Hunter S. Thompson in Ralph Steadman’s Limited Edition Blu-ray Covers

Breaking Bad fans, we’ve found something new for you to add to your collection! You’ve got the barrel box set and hazmat suit, you snagged some limited edition threads, and you’re slowly making your way through every piece of Walter White memorabilia that you can shake a mineral at. Now you just have to hold out ’til February 2, 2015, when these limited edition Ralph Steadman-illustrated Breaking Bad Blu-ray covers are released.

Steadman, the famed British illustrator and artist who worked with Hunter S. Thompson throughout his madcap adventures, most notably Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas, has teamed up with Breaking Bad creator Vince Gilligan to create these gorgeous portraits of the show’s major protagonists/antagonists (though at certain points, weren’t they one and the same?). Each season corresponds to a major character: Water White, Jesse Pinkman, Saul Goodman, Gus Fring, Mike Ehrmantraut, and Hank Schraeder.

Steadman and Gilligan are apparently (and unsurprisingly) huge fans of one another, and sound over the moon to be working together on this project. “When I first floated the idea of approaching Ralph to work with us on this project, it was a bit of a pipe dream on my part,” said Gilligan. “I can barely describe the combination of disbelief and giddy joy I felt when I heard he was on board to do it! Ralph is the Walter White of artists: He’s a dark genius whose output is disturbing, yet habit-forming. I am thrilled by his arrestingly bleak, visceral imaginings of our Breaking Bad characters.”

Though we’re a bit disappointed Skyler White didn’t make the cut somehow (on a collection of never-before-seen extras, maybe?), these portraits perfectly encompass the look and feel Breaking Bad and Steadman’s signature style. You can drool over the limited edition Blu-ray Steelbooks in the gallery below.

The Hunter Thompson name drop is really misleading as he has nothing to do with Breaking Bad or these art pieces.

A thought as to why no Skyler – she wasn’t (despite what people thought) one of Walter’s major obstacles…
