BRAVE’S Merida to Make an Appearance on SOFIA THE FIRST

Sofia the First is changing its fate. Kind of. Aunt Tilly (Bonnie Hunt) is returning to the series to give Princess Sofia (Ariel Winter) a new role: She gets to be storykeeper of magical books. Um, is that I job I could apply for? Because I’m happy to make up qualifications. Anyway! “Sofia the First: The Secret Library” will kick off a four-part story arc about Sofia’s amazing position beginning on Monday, October 12, on the Disney Channel and Disney Junior. Sofia will encounter a very special, frizzy-haired guest in the episode: Merida from Brave. Merida will be voiced by none other than Ruth Connell (Supernatural).

Merida’s keeping busy. Before she appears on Sofia the First, the character will also show up on ABC’s Once Upon a Time when Season 5 of the series premieres on September 27.

Hugh Bonneville (Downton Abbey) will voice the Narrator for the four-part story, and additional guest stars include Cary Elwes (The Princess Bride) as the villainous Prince Roderick and Dean Norris (Breaking Bad) as Minimus the horse’s brother, Mazzimo.

If you want to get a jump-start on the story, Disney Publishing Worldwide has released an illustrated storybook and e-book titled Sofia the First: The Secret Library that explains how Sofia became the storykeeper. The books will also see Sofia go on adventures to complete the endings of the magical books in her care. An accompanying app with new stories and play experiences will be available on October 8, just ahead of the story arc’s television premiere. Fancy.

Are you excited to see Merida on Sofia the First? Let me know if you’re brave enough to tune in (yeah, I went there).
