Brad Bird Speaks of New Challenges for INCREDIBLES 2

Have you been missing your favorite Incredible family? Yeah, so have we. But there’s good news! Brad Bird, director of  Pixar’s The Incredibles, has offered fans an update on the sequel.

Bird told Collider that he’s three quarters through a first draft of the script, and he’ll be working on the project with longtime collaborators. This film will come with a new challenge, though, and that is the competition it will have with the many multiples of superhero films being released alongside it. In 2004 when The Incredibles was released in theaters, there were only five superhero films, and they weren’t met with the box office success that typically greets superhero films now. The superhero films being released in 2016 and 2017 have a much larger projected gross than those films of yesteryear, and Bird is keeping this in mind as he puts his best foot forward.

Speaking of the challenge he and his team face, Bird said, “What you don’t want to do is trot all over the same turf in the same way everyone else has. So we’re trying to keep it focused in the area that our film was, which was a little more about characters and relationships and stuff like that, and see where that takes us. But we’re having a good time.” I fondly remember the strong family structure and characterizations that Bird built up in the first film, so I’m eagerly awaiting a second dose.

The release date for The Incredibles 2 is yet to be announced, but you can read more about the sequel here. Also, follow Bird’s Twitter feed @BradBirdA113 for updates as they come.
