BOB’S BURGERS Did a GAME OF THRONES Parody… With Cats

It was only a matter of time before Loren Bouchard, creator of Bob’s Burgers, took on everyone’s favorite fantasy series, Game of Thrones. The pun-tastic, musical, wondrous series has taken on nearly every pop culture trope and genre there is, and in “The Gayle Tales,” Bouchard managed to make Game of Thrones even better… by incorporating cats.

Last night, on a new episode, the Belcher kids are competing for a ticket to see Yarnival (a.k.a. “Cirque du Soleil, but with cats”) with their aunt Gayle (Megan Mullally). The episode is structured similar to “The Frond Files,”  but instead of each child telling their version of an event, they must draft up stories to impress her. They’re also working through some of their issues with Linda, who’s grounded them for reasons unknown. All three stories are chock-full of the pop culture references Bob’s Burgers is known for, but it’s Louise that takes on George R.R. Martin’s violent, addictive show.

In “Gayle of Thrones,” Queen Gayle rules over Catsteros, is the most powerful woman in all the nine cat-life kingdoms, and even has her own cat-dragons. And that’s not all. Linda is “Lindarian” and, like Cersei, drinks a lot of wine, Bob is a hulking “Bob-dor,” and Louise is the sword-toting hero. It’s…a thing of feline beauty.

This is a hybrid of things we didn’t realize we needed: Bob’s Burgers + Game of Thrones + cats. So simple, yet so genius.

Bob’s Burgers is one of the best shows on TV. It’s shockingly underrated. While H. Jon Benjamin can always be counted on to be funny, Kristen Schaal is who makes that show. I’d watch a Louise spin off every day of the week.

    This episode was too funny.
