BLADE RUNNER 2049 May Feature a Digitally Recreated Replicant From the Original Movie

BLADE RUNNER 2049 May Feature a Digitally Recreated Replicant From the Original Movie

Later this year, Harrison Ford‘s Rick Deckard will make his return in Blade Runner 2049, the sequel to director Ridley Scott‘s iconic sci-fi film. But Deckard may not be the only familiar face from Blade Runner making a comeback on the big screen. A new report suggests that one of the replicants from the first movie may also return, thanks to the magic of CGI.

The rumor originated at The Terminator Fans, which stated that the digitally recreated performer will appear in more than just a cameo within the film. However, there are no confirmed details about which character it will be. Nerdist has reached out to Warner Bros. for confirmation of this report, but we have not yet received it.

Assuming that the report is accurate, there really aren’t that many people it could be. Ford would be the obvious choice, since he’s already co-starring in the movie and this would potentially be a way to either address Deckard’s ambiguous true nature by introducing a younger Deckard replicant or by flashing back to some of the intervening three decades since the original movie. That said, we’d like to see Sean Young’s Rachael appear alongside Deckard, since she may not have aged since we last saw her. It would also be intriguing to see the rogue replicants Roy Batty (Rutger Hauer) or Pris (Daryl Hannah) make their return, since they would arguably have unfinished business with Deckard. Do androids dream of electric grudges?

Birth Movies Death also has a potential spoiler for Blade Runner 2049. According to that site, Ryan Gosling‘s character, LAPD Officer K, will locate Deckard in Las Vegas. That could mean that Vegas will be a significant setting for the film, and it’s already been revealed that Deckard has been in hiding for 30 years. Perhaps that’s where he’s been the entire time. We’ll find out for sure when Blade Runner 2049 is released on October 6.
