The first reactions to Black Panther say it might be the best Marvel movie ever, but what are the chances that’s really true this time? We discussed the hype on today’s Nerdist News Talks Back, along with breaking down the trailers for Ant-Man and the Wasp and Mute.
Host Jessica Chobot was joined today by Nerdist News writer Aliza Pearl, producer Derek Johnson, and Bizarre States‘ Andrew Bowser, and they kicked things off with the overwhelming response from Black Panther‘s world premiere last night. Some are saying it might be the best entry in the MCU yet, but we’ve heard that before. What are the chances it’s true this time? Is this just an overreaction? Are we more excited to see it now, or are we trying to temper our expectations? And what Marvel movie let us down after it too received a lot of hype?
That wasn’t the only marvel news though, as the studio also dropped the first trailer for Ant-Man and the Wasp. What do we think of it? How does our excitement for this movie compare to our hype for other upcoming MCU films? Where in the chronology do we think the movie will fit? Would we prefer it take place before or after Infinity War? Do we expect it to be a standalone film or tie-in with the larger universe? And is this trailer’s release just further evidence Solo will be pushed back?
Finally, because the world needs more Paul Rudd, we also got a trailer from Netflix for Mute, the spiritual sequel to Duncan Jones’ Moon. What do we think of it? Did we like Moon? Are we fans of sci-fi films that take place in the same universe but aren’t connected? Are streaming sites the right home for these types of movies? And between this and Big Little Lies are we living in the Skarsgard-issance?
As always Nerdist News Talks Back airs live every weekday at 1:00 p.m. PT on our YouTube and Alpha channels, so you can tune in with us and be a part of the conversation. And if you think people are excited for Black Panther you should hear what people are saying about tomorrow’s NNTB.
“The best show ever!”
“A life-changing experience!”
“It moved me to tears.”
And our moms wouldn’t just say that, so you know it’s gonna be good.
We still want to hear your thoughts on today’s show though, so share your thoughts with us in the comments below.
